Roger Tuivasa-Sheck signs two-year deal with Wakefield Trinity from next season in shock move away from NRL

New Zealand Warriors star Roger Tuivasa-Sheck has signed a shock two-year deal with Wakefield Trinity in an unexpected move away from the NRL.

The 32-year-old has made over 230 appearances in the top tier of Australian Rugby League and won the NRL Grand Final with the Sydney Roosters in 2013.

He has represented both New Zealand and Samoa in Rugby League at international level as well as playing for the All Blacks having stepped across to Rugby Union in 2022.

The NRL legend began his career with Sydney before a move to the New Zealand Warriors saw him go on to win the Dally M Medal in 2018 as well as the Golden Boot in 2019.

Tuivasa-Sheck returned to Rugby League in 2024 before switching his international allegiances to Samoa

"I'm grateful for the opportunity to join Wakefield and compete in the Super League," said Tuivasa-Sheck.

"My family and I are really excited for the move and new challenge.

"From the conversations I've had, I can see the club is heading in a really positive direction and I'm looking forward to being part of that journey."

Tuivasa-Sheck had confirmed his move in a video posted on his brother Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck's YouTube.

The veteran's tenure at Warriors first came under question when last year he was linked to R360, which has been delayed until 2028.

"That's it, done," Tuivasa-Sheck said in the video. "I just signed a two-year deal with Wakefield Trinity in Super League.

"I'll take my family with me, have an adventure, try and win the comp, and have a lot of fun.

"Let's see how we go - the show goes on."

His move to the Betfred Super League would put him as one of the biggest stars playing in the UK.

Wakefield Trinity Head Coach Daryl Powell said: "We are delighted to bring Roger to Wakefield. We are obviously an ambitious club and signing Roger shows that once again.

"He's a super high-quality signing for both the Super League competition and of course for Wakefield Trinity and we look forward to welcoming him into our family and helping us achieve our ambitions in the near future."

Trinity director of rugby Ste Mills said the arrival of Tuivasa-Sheck marks a "huge shift in the landscape" of Super League.

"We believe he is one of the final pieces to our puzzle and someone of his calibre and experience will only help propel the club towards silverware," Mills added.

"We've worked tirelessly since the opportunity arose and we can not be happier to have Roger as part of the club for the next couple of seasons."

Your Site will again show every game of the Super League live this season - including two matches in each round exclusively live, with the remaining five matches each week shown on
