Tiger Woods injury update: Fifteen-time major champion says 'still some time' until return after his team win TGL Golf match

Tiger Woods says it will still be "some time" until he returns to professional golf as he watched his Jupiter Links side earn their first TGL win in 2026 on Monday.

Woods last competed in an official PGA Tour event in July 2024 when he missed the cut at The Open and missed the entire 2025 season after he ruptured his Achilles last March, then underwent disc replacement in October.

The 50-year-old has only made 11 competitive starts since the car crash in 2021, struggling to contend at events during such a limited playing schedule.

Asked when he could play for his Jupiter Links side in the TGL this season, he said: "Playing here? I don't know. I like watching these guys. As far as competitive golf, it's still some time."

Woods played in three of Jupiter Links' four losses in the tech-infused tournament last year, is officially part of the 2026 roster, but had already ruled himself out of the early fixtures prior to the new season.

Jupiter Links have just two more league games on March 2 and March 4 before the semi-finals and final later that month, if they are in the top four. However, Woods' latest comments suggest he will not compete in the TGL this season.

Woods turning 50 frees him up to play on the PGA Tour Champions from next season, giving him the option to play events on either circuit once he has recovered from injury.

He could use a golf cart during regular-season events on the PGA Tour Champions but played down any expectations of a quick return in December.

"I'm a way away from that part of it and that type of decision, that type of commitment level," he said.

"Unfortunately, I've been through this rehab process before, it's just step by step. Once I get a feel for practising, exploding, playing, the recovery process, I can assess where I'm going to play and how much.

"I really haven't gone in depth on what the schedule looks like on the Champions Tour, except for a few tournaments."

Last week, Brooks Koepka revealed the first person he called when he was released from his LIV contract was Woods, to discuss his return to the PGA Tour.

The five-time major winner ended his deal with the Saudi breakaway series a year early as he wanted to spend more time at home with his family.

Woods, who as well as being a 15-time major winner is chairman of the PGA Tour's Future Competitions Committee, is still the player his contemporaries look up to and Koepka knew he was his first point of contact.

Woods said on Koepka potentially playing in the TGL next year said: "Brooks just got his feet wet being back on our Tour again at Torrey, and he's playing Waste Management this week.

"We've got one new team next year, and should have two. I don't know when it's going to be sewn up or not. But who knows.

"If Brooks is going to be on a team or not on a team, but we have a great team here. My boys here, we've had so much fun going back and forth, and these group texts are just awesome."
